Company: | Kelowna Software Limited |
Product: | Library 4 Universal (L4U) Platinum 1.4 and earlier |
Category: | Library Inventory |
Problems: | Application saves its database in the installation folder by default, and saves other items, such as program preferences, to a folder in All Users\Application Data.
Program shortcuts in the Start Menu only show up for the user that installed the applciation. Desktop shortcuts will show up for all users, however.
Causes a Windows Firewall exception after logging on. L4U Platinum provides an internal web server for library lookups on other computers. |
Workarounds: | As an Administrator:
1) Install and set up application normally.
2) Grant Modify access for the BUILTIN\Users group to the following folder:
%programfiles%\L4U Platinum
(usually C:\Program Files\L4U Platinum)
3) Launch once, and provide the license key when prompted.
4) If asked by the Windows Firewall, allow (or deny as you wish) the application (L4UPlatinum.exe) access, to permit its internal web server to work.
5) Exit the application, and browse to:
%allusersprofile%\Application Data
(Usually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users)
6) Grant the following permissions to the "4D" folder inside:
Administrators: Full Control
SYSTEM: Full Control
Power Users: Modify
Users: Modify
Remove all other permissions, especially CREATOR OWNER. Failing to remove the CREATOR OWNER permission will cause difficulty if more than one limited account tries to use the application.
7) Remove the CREATOR OWNER user from the permissions for Application Data as well, if you experience further permissions problems.
8) Copy the program shortcuts from the installing user's Start Menu to the All Users Start Menu.
L4U Platinum should now work correctly for limited users. If the application works correctly for one user but fails for another, double-check that CREATOR OWNER was removed as described. |
