Company: | Pearson Learning |
Product: | BASC-2 Assist Plus |
Category: | Education |
Problems: | Application stores its local database in All Users \ Application Data, but this folder is read-only to limited accounts by default.
In addition, the BASC-2 Launcher writes to a log file in its installation folder, also read-only to limited accounts. Even after permitting write access to the database, the "splash" screen will stay displayed long after the application is closed. |
Workarounds: | As an Administrator:
1) Install the latest Java Virtual Machine before installing BASC-2.
2) Install the application normally, cancelling the Java 1.4 installer that follows. BASC-2 runs correctly with Java 1.6.0_05 as of this writing.
3) Launch the application and perform a manual update. This should update the software from 1.0 to 1.4 or later.
4) Grant Modify access for the following folders to the BUILTIN\Users group:
%programfiles%\AGS\Logs (usually C:\Program Files\AGS\Logs)
%allusersprofile%\Application Data\AGS (usually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AGS)
Test the application with a limited account. BASC-2 Assist should now run correctly for limited users. |
