Company: | Cisco Systems |
Product: | Cisco Configuration Professional 2.1 and earlier |
Category: | Network Support |
Problems: | When launched as a non-administrator, application will hang on startup. Attempting to close the application and log off from Windows will result in a report that IEC2.exe is not responding.
IEC2.exe tries to write log files to the installation folder. No intelligent error returns.
According to a Cisco Systems support representative:
> From: [censored to protect the innocent] > Sent: Thursday, April 22, 2010 11:17 PM > To: Gordon Fecyk > Subject: [censored] Reporting a bug > > After discussing with the DEs, it is my understanding that the behavior > you are seeing is by design. essentially CCP is a tool catered for > network admins and it is expected the user will have admin privileges > on the machine where they install and use the software. Also, Admin > privileges are needed to write to the log file and without the > privileges log cannot be generated. > > Furthermore, the BU has no current plans to change this behavior.

Workarounds: | As a local administrator, grant Modify access to the installation folder for the BUILTIN\Users local group. Example command line:
cacls "%programfiles%\Cisco Systems\CiscoCP" /e /t /g Users:c
The application will then launch correctly for non-administrators.
WARNING: This will expose your installation to abuse by non-administrators. |
