ScanShell Series Scanners

Category:

Scanner, ID Cards

Problems:

Calibration, cleaning and scanning will "succeed" without actually calibrating, cleaning or scanning, when performed as a non-administrator. The scanner software will request calibration after a "successful" calibration.

Workarounds:

Uninstall any previous software and drivers, and obtain the latest software from idScan's ScanShell Store.

As an administrator, create a folder named "Card Scanning Solutions" in where %allusersprofile% points to (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users on Windows XP, or C:\ProgramData on Windows Vista or 7).

Grant Modify permissions to the BUILTIN\Users local group for this new folder.

Calibrations from that point forward will store calibration data in the newly created folder, and be accessible to all users.

User Account Control would normally virtualize this folder, but this would require each user to calibrate the scanner. With UAC turned off, or on XP, non-admins will not be able to calibrate at all.
