WebEx Meeting Manager for Windows

Category:

Conferencing

Problems:

"Error 9: file (%userprofile%\webex\424\atshell.exe)" when launched as a restricted user under Windows 2000
("userprofile" refers to the current user's profile folder, usually C:\Documents and Settings\%username%)

If installed by an Administrator, WebEx's client software will work for a Limited user, but frequent updating means an unannounced update will fail to install for Limited users.

Furthermore, each customer site using WebEx Meeting Manager, for example galileo.webex.com, kds.webex.com and so forth, will require the administrator to preinstall Meeting Manager for each WebEx customer.

Workarounds:

Choose an alternate meeting platform such as GotoMeeting, Callinfo, or Live Meeting.

Alternately ask the meeting host to permit or require the Java-based Meeting Manager instead of the Windows-based Meeting Manager. The meeting host can select this option by choosing "Limited Functionality" from their own Meeting Manager Setup options.

Clients should install the latest Java Virtual Machine before joining a meeting set up in this fashion.

An Administrator may pre-install WebEx's client software before allowing a Limited user to join a meeting, but updates come unnanounced. You may have to plan to deploy an update the evening before a scheduled meeting. You will also have to repeat this deployment for each WebEx customer you interact with.
