Company: | Cendant Corporation / Galileo International |
Product: | Galileo Desktop 4.01 with Focalpoint |
Category: | Terminal Emulation |
Problems: | Unable to Write to win.ini
It appears you do not have sufficient access rights to run the product, please see your local LAN Administrator.
Galileo Desktop is a 32-bit port of Galileo's Focalpoint terminal emulator software. In addition to requiring write access to the 16-bit Windows subsystem, it continues to store its applications and other files in the root of %systemdrive% (usually C:\FP), and does not work with spaces in the installation folder's name.
Requiring access to win.ini and the root of %systemdrive% disallows multiple users from using Galileo Desktop on Terminal Server, contrary to Galileo's documentation. |
Workarounds: | Continue using Focalpoint 3.5 and Viewpoint 3.0 instead of Galileo Desktop, and review installation instructions and workarounds for those products.
While not recommended, granting Modify access for the Users local group to the following objects enables Galileo Desktop to function:
%systemdrive%\FP
%systemroot%\win.ini
WARNING: These changes will expose your installation of Galileo Desktop to abuse by limited users.
In addition, it is possible to modify win.ini's [Focalpoint] section to point "DATADIR" to a folder on the user's home drive and path:
[Focalpoint]
datadir=H:\fp\datadir
You can then have a Galileo Desktop user's settings follow them between computers, much like roving profiles do. |
