Company: | Cendant Corporation / Galileo International |
Product: | Focalpoint 3.50.21 and Viewpoint 3.0 |
Category: | Terminal Emulation |
Problems: | 16-bit Windows application with several 32-bit companion applications, with an installation folder in the root of %systemdrive% (usually C:\FP)
Tries to write a username to win.ini which is off-limits to limited users, but still runs if it doesn't succeed |
Workarounds: | Despite its 16-bit design, Focalpoint and its companions are easier to install and run for limited users than the newer Galileo Desktop:
1) Install Focalpoint and its companions normally, into C:\FP
2) Optionally, during installation, specify a network home drive (usually H: or Z:) for "datadir" (for example: H:\FP\DATADIR)
3) Install all recommended updates from Galileo, and grant Modify access for the built-in Users local group for the local installation folder (C:\FP) and for %systemroot%\temp
4) If you used a network drive for DATADIR, copy the DATADIR folder from your home folder to the other users' home folders in your network
5) Run Focalpoint and its companions once as an administrator to populate needed Registry settings (needed for Focalpoint Relay to work as a limited user)
6) A limited user may now run and use Focalpoint and its companions.
Users can only retain their own settings if DATADIR is in the user's home drive or home folder, otherwise all users share the same settings. |
